If you are in a 1980's mood, you should check out the John Byrne run on Fantastic Four, the Walt Simonson Thor run, the Byrne/ Claremont X-men and the Frank Miller Daredevil run, they are some of my favourite runs of comics. There are more, I will post them as I think of them.
The Return of the Dark Knight is a 1980's product.

I am a big Vertigo guy, and I would highly recommend picking up "The Other Side" it's a well written take on the vietnam war.

I was getting it, but didn't read any of it yet... will soon now that the series is done, but a buddy of mine was loving it.
I want to sit down and read Kubert's Wolverine run... but I think I'm missing too many issues to really make it worthwhile.

Ok,tonights reading; Battlestar Galactica, Dynamite, #4 - ok story, very different from the show. Not bad art.
Battlestar Galactica Zarek #1 - good origin, I wondered how he got so crafty.
Iron Fist #2, I like this issue, it is especially cool that they got Severin to do the war parts, he is so good. The flashbacks are neat too.
Batman 661, the whole Grotesk story has an old school Batman feel to it. Batman got to punch off the top of Grotesk's head, don't see that every day.
Ultimate FF #37. Good art, a little washed out in parts but generally fine. The story is getting a little ponderous. I know they need to alter things a little for this retelling, but sometimes the original charactor is better.
Avengers Next 2, 4 I still like the alternate Marvel-verse that these charactors are in. It is like permanent What If?!? mode.
Nextwave Agents of H.A.T.E. one of the best and funniest extended fight scenes of all time. I was laughing out loud!
Wetworks #4. Another Mike Carey title, I must read almost everything he does. This issue starts to put the story together for me, I never read the original Wetworks, so I am having to figure out all this stuff from scratch.
Justice #9. Another beautiful issue, I want all the panels for posters. The story is getting a little long, but I can see a reconing coming that will be worth the wait.
X-men 194. Good transitional story, terrible art. I will keep this title as long as Carey writes it, but the art was painful to look at.

Well, I'm in the process of reading (slowly) Transmetropolitan, but it's slow going.

Read the first 6 issues of the current Green Lantern series last night. Some pretty good stuff in there. Not quite as good as a lot of the Marvel stuff i'm reading, but I've always enjoyed GL, and Geoff Johns is an (obviously) good writer.
A few things about Hal all of a sudden being back seem a little on the "plot holes" side of things, but it's probably explained by the Infinite Crisis storyline, and the universe rebooting itself, which I've always thought is a little silly.
Ah well, decent read all around

I do have to say... I can't stand Simone Bianchi... he fucking sucks.
Decent covers here and there, shitty shitty interior art.

it's funny because I can't stand what's-his-name, the guy drawing Green Lantern right now... which is pretty much the only reason I'm not buying it.

I just read the Robin/ Batgirl tp: Fresh Blood. It filled in a bit of the hole after the gang war for me. Bill Willingham wrote it, so the story was well put together with a lot of his humour sneaking in. The art was tolerable, but not great. I kinda like Batgirl, she has so many problems to overcome, yet she still tries so hard. She kinda reminds me of X-23.

it's funny because I can't stand what's-his-name, the guy drawing Green Lantern right now... which is pretty much the only reason I'm not buying it. Were you buying it at all? Because the artist has changed about 5 times in the year in and a half that the series has been going. I've enjoyed most of the interior artists.... I can't stand Simone Bianchi, but he only did one issue, although he did a bunch of covers. Van Sciver is alright, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Pacheco I normally don't care for, but his stuff on the early GLs is probably some of his best work. But the current artist, who has been there since the start of OYL, Ivan Reis, is my favorite of the bunch cause he's consistent with his art. Anyway, all this to say I finished reading the run up to the newest issue, and I have to say, it's one of the title that I think has greatly improved since OYL. A lot of people have been bitching that most titles took a downward spiral since last summer... but I think this one has been just getting better and better.

Spider-Man Reign #3 I thought this was the best issue yet... Dark Knight Returns rip-off or not. Kaare Andrews doesn't pretend that DKR didn't influence this story... I mean the two reporters are even named Miller and Varr. This issue proves that it's not a Batman story with Spider-Man in it... Batman wouldn't fit very well in this story. OH... and the creepiest Doc Ock I've ever seen in a book. newuniversal #3 Although the only action that happens in this issue is with Detective Tensen, it's suprisingly violent... most of the issue sets up the newuniverval mythos wich I appreciate... instead of just introducing more super powered people with no thought to plot or story.

I just read the Astro City hardcover. It was excellent, but I knew it would be. I have been saving it for when I had a bit of time so I could read it in one sitting. Busiek is so good at handling heroes trying to function in a more mundane world.

I havent read much superpowered comics in a long long time, Ive looked for something, but havent found anything that caught my interest.
What has caught my interest is Y the Last Man, amazing series, I havent been into comics in almost 8 years, this was the comic that drug me back into loving comics.
A friend also lent me his dark horse Conan comics, they are pretty wicked. I always liked the low fantasy and the harshness of the setting.
