All remaining battles get resolved with quick resolution.
I would not be in favor of that.
Quick Resolution is a fine system and it has its own good and bad aspects, but it is its own system that should be used either exclusively or not at all. If, as a group, we decide to use only strategic resolution, then I'm all for that, and there are some good systems out there for that (there is one that simply converts base-cost BPV into a combat rating, which is better if we allow non-standard races into the campaign), but that is not the same as trying to use both types of systems in the same campaign.
I mean, it would be entirely possible for players to arrange, either accidentally or with forethought, a situation where there is a number of smaller battles before a major battle occurs, and because of the time it takes to complete the smaller battles, the big, real battle has to be done with strategic resolution. That's not an ideal situation at all.
No, I think forcing everyone into playing other people's battles (like we did with these battles, so that as many battles as possible are running simultaneously), a three week limit on any single battle, and combined with the fact that your battles will continue even if you are not there to fight them will get us through the thickest hump of delays while still maintaining a combination of strategic level and tactical level play.
To do anything less, then we should just get rid of either the "campaign" section of our game and give each player a small fleet of ships, that they draw small squadrons from to fight duels against other players or else get rid of tactical combat and play a high-level strategic game. I don't prefer either of those choices right now, but then I'm satisfied with the pacing so far.
