The last set of duels was popular enough that we are going to do it again. As before, I'll bring extra maps and counters so we can run battles for everyone simultaneously and again, if we have an odd number of people, I'll sit out. The main difference from the last fight is that we are increasing the CPV to 150. This will let everyone play war cruiser leaders or fast war cruisers if they so choose (before, only some races could do so). Like before, we will draw randomly to determine pairings.
War Cruiser Duel: * 150 CPV. * Weapon Status 2. * One ship, must be a war cruiser or light cruiser. * The following special variants cannot be selected: carriers, commando, drone bombardment ships, escorts, maulers, minesweepers, PF tenders, scouts, SFG-equipped ships, survey ships, tugs, x-ships, or heavy war cruisers. * No fighters (except hybrid carriers), PFs, legendary officers (including outstanding crews and computer controlled ships) can be selected. * All accessories (like drone speed upgrades and T-Bombs) are drawn from the above CPV.
One reason to keep with the war cruiser duels is that they are faster. Heavy Cruisers have a good mix of firepower and staying power, while war cruisers have more firepower compared to staying power, which results in faster fights (and more unforgiving fights).

Again, we had some good battle last night. The duels were:
1) John - Klingon D5C vs. Andrew - Ryn CM (outside nebula)
Andrew won the battle, but it was close fought for quite a while and he had taken a pretty good damage from John over the course of the fight. From what I was heard (and I could be wrong about this), the end maneuver that won Andrew the battle was a fast dash and stop from John (with a full alpha strike), but afterward, Andrew was able to use his ship's superior maneuverability to swing around to a down shield and fire some hefty damage into John. John conceded realizing that he simply wouldn't be able to shake Andrew off of that down shield for a couple of turns as he rebuilt speed.
2) Kevin - Lyran CWL vs. Chris - Wyn CWL (with Ph-1s in the option mounts)
For the first couple of turns, Chris and I danced around each other, trading shots. At one point, I was able to get some nice damage on his #4 shield, taking it down by half. Using my ship's really good firing arcs (not to say that his weren't just as good), I kept moving and firing into that #4 shield, eventually taking it down and doing internals. I never accomplished a huge alpha strike into his ship, but when he conceded on turn 5, I had done enough damage to take him down some weapons and make him lose a non-trivial amount of power while sustaining only heavy shield damage on several shields. Going into turn 6, his available power would have been greatly diminished, while I was still fully functional.
